WordPress was released on May 27, 2003, by its founders, Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little
Naturally, the WordPress platform was always associated with blogs but later evolved to support various forms of web content such as Forum, Galleries, Membership Community sites, E-stores ( Online stores), and multiple types of learning management systems.
It is probably the easiest to term it as a content management system (CMS) based on MySQL, Javascript and PHP

Do note: WordPress was released over a decade, and with several patches, enhancements and fixes, it has made a name for itself as a world-class web publishing system.

So naturally, WordPress is easy to learn because so many tests have been run to make the Platform user-friendly. But even with how friendly it is, it is still an advanced framework with unlimited possibilities.

Disadvantage /problem you may encounter while using the WordPress Platform.

  1. I feel one of the most significant problems one would have to face is Change. Now I know you may be surprised by this, but it's valid. For instance, previously, the Platform made use of classic editor but later decided to set block editor as default. ( They then decided to give users the option to set which editor they wished you make use of through a Plugin)
  2. Unquestionably the most significant disadvantage of WordPress is its security. It's not that the Platform is not secure, but the plugin you later tend to use may end up making your site tremendous or destroying it with spam ( Note: do not use pirated plugins)
  3. Using a Large number of deprecated plugins can make the website heavy to load and run
  4. HTML, CSS, Javascript and PHP knowledge is required to do modification or changes in the WordPress website.
  5. The integration of plugins can become a nightmare. I have personally at various points in time contact separate plugin authors to make their plugins compatible with each other and compatible wise with the theme I use actively.

So many may ask what makes people consider using WordPress?

For starters, it is free to install, deploy, and upgrade.
With over ten thousand plugins and templates with powered functionality, .which are free with a flexible and simplified interface that could reduce development costs and deployment time who would not call that tempting.
Also, the Platform has an active community that solidifies its form of uniqueness.

What is the purpose of WordPress?

I would guess, like so many  CMS out there; its primary purpose is to serve as an easy tool that everybody can use to create their website/ Web App.
